DutiesSummary

The Mission Engineering and Systems Analysis (MESA) Division is seeking an experienced individual to serve as Product Development Lead (PDL) or deputy PDL for the WFIRST Deployment & Propulsion Electronics (DPE) subsystem in the Components and Hardware Systems Branch (596). Responsibilities include leading a team of engineers and technicians through the design, analysis, development, testing, and delivery of engineering and space flight hardware units.

Responsibilities
  • The duties described below are for the highest grade level advertised. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
  • As an Aerospace Engineer specializing in Guidance, Navigation, and Control Systems (GN&C), you will lead the initiation, planning, design, and development of attitude and guidance components and hardware systems for GSFC programs.
  • You will provide technical direction to flight research projects involving advanced control technology and integrated control algorithms.
  • You will also determine, recommend and prepare projects for Center advocacy, including documentation and presentations.
  • You will direct a broad range of inter-disciplinary development and design activities of Guidance Navigation and Control equipment.
  • You will make recommendations and implement actions for technical problems.
  • You will plan and establish overall outline for design and development of proposed technology, equipment, or systems as well as publish technical data and develop scientifically based standards for engineering application.
  • You will utilize Attitude Control and Stabilization (ACS) Components for testing and will be seen as an expert authority in planning and conducting investigations and tests and evaluating equipment, components, or systems.
  • You will plan and coordinate projects in unexplored areas where there is little or no theory so new techniques and approaches are needed.
  • You will develop and direct the development of aerospace engineering analysis standards for projects or systems.
  • You will also serve as senior technical contact and/or Contracting Officer s Technical Representative (COTR).

    Basic Education Requirement: A bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university with major study in Aeronautical Engineering, Aeronautics, Aerospace Engineering, Architecture, Astronautical Engineering, Astronautics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Biomedical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Ceramics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science*, Earth and Planetary Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Mathematics (Pure or Applied), Applied Mechanics, Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Metallurgy, Meteorology, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Engineering Physics, Oceanography, Optical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Space Science, Structural Engineering, Welding Engineering or other appropriate physical science or engineering field. Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position. *Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science.
