COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATORGOAL: The Communications Coordinator plays a key role in communicating the mission, reach and overall effectiveness of Communities In Schools of Atlanta programs.

REPORTS TO: Chief Development Officer

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Exempt

SALARY RANGE: OPEN

SPECIFIC DUTIES: The Communications Coordinator will work closely with CIS of Atlanta staff on a mission-focused marketing communications strategy for the purpose of promoting key messages about the success of our research based, award winning school engagement programs. This role will manage our external communications inspiring volunteer engagement, increased community partnerships, and donor engagement while establishing CIS of Atlanta as the premier high school drop-out prevention program.

  • Develop and implement a strategic external and internal communications plan, and annual performance plans with measurable goals.
  • Manage ongoing media relations, strategies and tactics, (media releases and other materials, story placement, relationships, etc.).
  • Work with retained media agency on all assigned tasks.
  • Maintain and update the cisatlanta.org website, Twitter account and Facebook page.
  • Produce a monthly electronic newsletter.
  • Maintain and update the organization’s database, targeting prospective donors in all categories corporate, foundation and individual donors.
  • Produce an annual report, brochure, and other information pieces (including video) about the organization to communicate the CIS brand and its value to the Atlanta community.
  • Assist other staff in collection of photography of program activities, maintain the organization s photo archive and photo releases.
  • Train/educate all CIS of Atlanta staff and board members on communicating the CIS brand.
  • Provide staff support to the board of directors’ Communications Committee.
  • Attend all required CIS of Atlanta staff meetings and training events and other meetings and events as requested.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Chief Development Officer.

  • Computer/Technical Skills - Proficient in design software including InDesign, CMS for websites, Microsoft Office Suite, Constant Contact and be able to integrate social media into CIS of Atlanta’s communication strategy.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    This position is responsible for supervising any interns, temporary staff, or volunteers who may be assigned to support events or projects related to communications or development.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in media relations and public relations.
  • Experience with nonprofits preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of the Atlanta media market and key reporters/editors (education, nonprofit reporters, editorial writers, radio personalities, public affairs directors, etc.)
  • Strong organizational skills (ability to multi-task).
  • Knowledge of event management (media events, news conferences)
  • Computer software proficiency of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint (Required).
  • Strong ability to work independently, meet deadlines, work under pressure, be resourceful and function as an effective team member.
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license, proof of vehicle liability insurance and able to pass a criminal background check.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be willing to travel as job requires
  • Will require some light lifting
  • HOURS:

    Working hours are generally 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. however; we expect the Communications Coordinator will work additional hours as necessary depending on programs and events planned, and will have a flexible schedule to accommodate evening and weekend activities.
