Job Description

The Computer Systems Operator (CSO) I monitors, reports and takes correction action to support the operations of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Ground Fire Control (GFC) & Communications (GFC/C) system.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the operation of the GMD GFC/C system to include, but not limited to: monitoring assets, reporting, analyzing, and assisting with issues associated with operations, test and exercise events, scheduled system and site transitions, and development activities
  • Use the Asset Management Process, the Consequence Management Plan, the Incident Command System, and Readiness Condition Specifications
  • Archive related information, to include database records and provide to resident engineers, programmers, and product support personnel
  • Responsible for the startup, configuration, monitoring, and analyzing of GFC/C operational software and connections to other missile defense assets and elements
  • Interface with customers to provide Level 1 problem resolution, determining hardware/software and interface anomalies, generate trouble reports and performs recovery actions as directed by governing regulations
  • Monitor both local and wide area classified/unclassified networks using HP OpenView applications
  • Identify and isolate hardware problems and performing router and switch port configurations as well as the execution of intelligent protection switches (IPSs) in accordance with prescribed documentation
  • Effectively interface and communicate with military and customers to provide problem resolution
  • Determines hardware/software interface anomalies, generate trouble reports using Remedy IT Service Management Software and perform recovery actions as directed by governing regulations.
  • Archive related information, to include database records and provide to resident engineers, programmers, and product support personnel
  • Adhere to applicable procedures, policies, and directives utilizing appropriate processes, approved procedures and management directives
  • Effectively respond to work schedule changes and recall activities as needed to support mission requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
  • High school degree/GED required
  • IAT Certification Level II, Security Plus certification IAW DoD 8570
  • Some computer related experience (e.g.: UNIX, MS Office, databases, software applications and hardware) and Sun Solaris platforms is desired
  • DoD secret clearance eligible to obtain an DoD Top Secret clearance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be able to accommodate and support a 24 hour per day/7 day per week/365 day per year work schedule
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of military and government customers.
  • Ability to work effectively in small teams.
  • Ability to read, understand, and execute detailed technical documentation such as checklists and operational procedures
  • Must display a high level of initiative, work well with others, and must be able to take ownership of problems and pro-actively work them to resolution
  • Travel: Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time as needed

  • The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.
  • During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
