Job Description

Southwestern University invites applications for the position of Coordinator of Community-Engaged Learning. The Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) Coordinator will perform a variety of duties including supporting co-curricular service programs like Spring Breakaway, monitoring and updating CEL communication, tracking community engagement, and administrating programs such as the OCEL award process as well as SU voting initiatives. This is a full-time, professional-level, benefited position reporting to the Sr. Director of Integrative and Community-Engaged Learning. The Coordinator position will be filled on a temporary, rotating basis by a recent Southwestern graduate (Class of 2018 or 2019). This 10 month position follows the academic year, starting August 1, 2019 through May 29, 2020.

The Program Coordinator position’s primary responsibilities: Advise and train Spring Breakaway student leaders, purchase travel and accommodations, supervise risk management, and travel with Spring Breakaway participants. Maintain, update, and expand information on the OCEL website, and compile CEL newsletter to share information about community engagement activities with the campus and greater communities. Collect and document co-curricular and curricular community engagement activities performed by the student population each semester, update budget and complete credit card statement on a monthly basis, and coordinate “Outstanding Student Contribution to Civic Engagement award process. In collaboration with faculty, convene and support Southwestern’s bipartisan Voter Friendly Campus committee

Required Qualifications: A recent Southwestern graduate (bachelor degree). In addition, candidates should have demonstrated experience working or volunteering with non-profit organizations; commitment to student development and cultivating social responsibility with regard to community-engaged learning; ability to coordinate multiple projects at once while managing time and logistics; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; and a desire to work in a collaborative and creative environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, web design, Google apps, and database software (or willingness and ability to learn).
