Job Description

The Design Director would be responsible for leading the creative execution and output within the design team. This position requires a highly motivated individual who can manage, inspire, and mentor junior designers and interns. Candidates should possess a sophisticated visual style, flexibility, and a compelling portfolio that ranges from fashion, retail to healthcare. Creative work will include event branding/collateral, advertising, photo shoot development, signage, windows, print, direct mail, PoP, packaging, merchandising and other projects as assigned.

Educational Requirements

MFA Graphic Design

Current and evolving sense of design including designing for the web

Excellent typographic skills

Ability to create and execute a broad creative vision while collaborating with key stakeholders

Knowledge of marketing materials and processes including keen project management skills and the ability manage one’s own projects along with managing the team’s work flow in a fast paced environment

Minimum of 3-5 years work experience as an art director/designer in a design, fashion, nonprofit or advertising environment with a desire to develop management skills

Mastery of design-related software (Illustrator, In Design and Photoshop).Video editing and HTML experience is a plus

Excellent pre-press and production skills from digital, offset, signage fabrication, to cut-vinyl and beyond, experience with unconventional printing and production is a big plus

Strong interpersonal, management, and presentation skills with an ability to communicate clearly and concisely

Ability to build strong partnerships with external partners and be resourceful

Ability to work creatively within the established budget and time constraints

Strong attention to detail

Minimum Requirements

Job Responsibilities:

Supervise of all creative elements for the retail store, community healthcare centers, integrated programs, fundraising and advocacy.

Work with Creative Director to develop and evolve brand aesthetics that are appropriate for each channel and audience

Translate business, marketing, and fundraising objectives into designs that are clear, compelling, visually exciting, easy to use and emotionally engaging

Create and develop a visual response to communication problems including identifying the problem, researching, analysis, solution generating, prototyping, user testing and outcome evaluation

Ability to be flexible, nimble, resourceful and dynamic in practice

Create presentations that address diverse users/audiences and business/organizational operations

Present design work to business partners and senior management. Shape design decisions in response to audience feedback

Must have the management and communication skills necessary to function and collaborate productively in large interdisciplinary teams that include creative leads, merchandising, marketing, graphic design and visual merchandising

Manage small design team—designer, production manager, interns and occasional consultants-including daily workload and individual development. Set clear roles, responsibilities and expectations of all projects to ensure that the design output is brand appropriate, and all marketing requirements are completed on time, and with the highest standard possible, for both internal and external reviews

Research creative trends in competitive markets and apply that knowledge and learning to development of new marketing and packaging projects
