$67,000 - $80,000 a yearSummary This full time, exempt position is responsible for the overall management of Design Engineering for Brush Holders manufactured by Helwig Carbon Products, Inc.: Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Core Responsibilities in brief:
  • Design of mechanical components and systems (mainly Brass Brush Holders and Steel Brackets for Electric Motors)
  • Design for manufacturability, and cost effectiveness to help us to be competitive
  • Help reduce the time required in design phase while matching input to output.
  • Professionally present the design output and advantages of our product to the customers.
  • Collaborate with project team, peers and management to assure design direction/changes are understood.
  • Responsible for budget and timeline on individual projects.
  • Handle multiple projects at time and update progress and notes in timely manner.
  • Rework reduction.
  • Core Responsibilities in Detail:
  • Review and understand customer inputs. Recommend optimum design by applying technical principles and by using experience. Analyze mechanical, environmental and operating constraints to develop recommendations to meet customer needs of optimal product performance, life, or cost.
  • Work closely with customers, customer service, Technical service, Product Specialist, R & D staff, and sales representatives to determine the effectiveness of Helwig’s products.
  • Leading new Designs with creative ideas and initiative. Ensure they are practically feasible by using resources such as 3D printing, working with Manufacturing and Suppliers.
  • Under the direction of the Technical Manager, this position is responsible for directing and coordinating the following engineering functions; product design, specifications, drawings and standardization.
  • Work closely with drafting department for accurate review and approve drawings for accuracy and feasibility. Improve old designs for design and manufacturing improvements.
  • Establish policies, procedures, databases etc. to maintain the integrity of all design engineering data. Monitor designs, product specifications and detail drawings to ensure accuracy and timely production.
  • Work in a cooperative and supportive manner with other personnel to effectively address customer issues, internal non-conformances, and product returns. Work closely with Production Management, Industrial Engineering, and Quality to develop and maintain manufacturing processes, procedures, and controls that support technologies and established customer specifications. Attend weekly meetings and complete action items timely.
  • Implement improvements in daily processes for better efficiency and utilization.
  • Review trade journals, attend seminars, and maintain contacts with outside organizations to keep well informed on new developments that affect product and company performance.
  • Track ECOs to complete implementation in timely manner. Maintain and improve centralized Database.
  • Create and encourage an environment that fosters open communication and encourages individuals and teams to collaborate in a professional manner to meet and exceed goals and internal and external customer expectations.
  • Perform other functions as needed or required to meet Company Goals.
  • Qualifications Education Must Have-
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Design or equivalent 4-year Engineering Degree.
  • Experience Must Have-
  • Minimum 3 years of Mechanical Design Experience in Manufacturing Industry
  • Hands on creative 3D CAD Modeling from concept to completion.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors
  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor, 3D modeling, assemblies, drawings, sheet metal, weldments, BOM’s, configurations, templates, etc.
  • Successfully performing various functions of the department if needed and using this knowledge and expertise to create standard operating procedures to ensure that expectations and job processes are clearly communicated and performed in a uniform manner.
  • Computer Skills
  • Working knowledge of 3-D Autodesk Inventor or Solidworks
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of ERP system
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft EXCEL, WORD, and OUTLOOK
  • Other Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed or required to meet needs and expectations of customers, vendors and independent representatives
