Development Scientist

The Development Scientist is responsible for providing technical expertise to develop robust formulations and processes that will be scaled-up to commercial scale. Communicates and interacts with customers, planner/buyers, project team members, key Winchester stakeholders and other Catalent sites to ensure each project achieves the established goals.

The ideal candidate must be able to work independently, under-pressure, and be adept at multi-tasking. A high sense of urgency, attention to detail, and result orientation is required. Experience in developing oral solid dosage forms with an expertise in particle coating and fluid bed-technologies would be highly preferred.

Catalent s Winchester location is the flagship US manufacturing location for large scale complex controlled release (CR) oral dose forms, with integrated analytical and development services. With 20 years of expertise in product development, technology transfers and commercial manufacturing, and roots in industry leading Glatt technology. This site offers newly installed Fluid Beds, expanded analytical labs, and an advanced open facility design that provides flexibility in supporting the requirements of any new customer program.

The Role

  • Developing oral solid dosage forms utilizing particle coating and fluid bed-technologies
  • Understand and utilize manufacturing equipment including roller compactors, laser drills, stick packing & bottling
  • Collaborate with client to ensure robustness of formulations and processes from tech transfer through validation and commercialization stage
  • Provide professional customer service (including monitoring of customers in the plant to ensure personal safety and confidentiality)
  • Provide technical/processing assistance to both the client and to the Winchester Manufacturing department.
  • Document results of development trials and correlate the impact process parameters to the quality attributes. Capture learnings in development reports.
  • Develop products and service offerings to support internal initiatives
  • Assist in preparation of timelines, batch records, protocols and other project related functions
  • Provide process related training to operators, supervisors and quality personnel that are involved in the project
  • Communicate and coordinate clearly / extensively with customer and other departments to achieve project goals

The Candidate

  • Doctorate’s degree and 1+ years related experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industries preferred;
  • Master’s degree and 4+ years related experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industries;
  • Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years related experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industries; or equivalent education, experience and training
  • Preferred degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Formulation Sciences, Chemical Engineering or Pharmacy
  • Experience in developing oral solid dosage forms with an expertise in particle coating and fluid bed-technologies is preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of particle and tablet coating, fluid bed processing, high shear granulation is preferred
  • Experience with roller compactors, laser drills, stick packing & bottling a plus
