Position: Director of Finance

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Supervises: Senior Accounting Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Finance is responsible for managing the association’s accounting activities by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems. The position ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions. The Director also oversees costs and general accounting, accounts receivable/collection, payroll and risk management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that AANA complies with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls and ensure adherence to financial laws and guidelines.
  • Drive the financial planning of the association by analyzing its performance and risks.
  • Prepare timely and detailed monthly reports on the association’s financial performance.
  • Oversee the annual budget process for AANA and the AANA Education Foundation.
  • Supervise the preparation of all association disbursements and receipts.
  • Oversee audit and tax functions.
  • Prepare short- and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance.
  • Oversee the association finance IT system.
  • Manage association’s cashflow and oversight of all bank accounts to maintain adequate working capital and return.
  • Responsible for all human resource activities, including employee benefits, retirement plans, and health insurance.
  • Serve as the primary contact to the investment consultant and bank personnel.
  • Serve as the staff liaison to the Finance Committee.
  • Assist the Chief Executive Officer and the Treasurer.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to plan and direct multiple projects, budgets and resources simultaneously.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles, laws and best practices.
  • Strategic Thinker.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience with association management software, preferably iMIS.
  • Exceptional customer service.
  • Effectively work with volunteers at all levels.
  • EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field.
  • CPA, preferred.
  • 7+ years proven experience in finance role, preferably in an association.
  • Strong knowledge of project-based accounting software, NetSuite preferred.
  • Impeccable mathematics and analytical skills.
  • Supervisory experience desirable.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard office equipment. Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files. Will occasionally have to pack, lift, and move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Majority of work is performed in a general office environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours to perform job duties. Same day and overnight travel may be required to participate at AANA events.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Salary: $75,000.00 to $90,000.00 /year
