Job Description

All Points West Distillery —named after the old Jersey Central railroad that connected the ports west of the Hudson to the rest of continental North America—provides a Trans-Atlantic take on each small-batch of spirits they create. Historic techniques from the Netherlands, Ireland, Scotland and Britain, which enabled immigrants from those countries to found dozens of successful distilleries and breweries thought the region(including 26 in Newark alone), are married with American approaches. The resulting spirits are innovative and crafted with care in small batches in Newark’s Ironbound, only 6 miles from America’s first distillery.

Bone Black Vodka: Made from 100% wheat and filtered through a dry distilled bone charcoal to effectively remove impurities, this vodka produces bold flavors with a smooth finish. Available in over-proofed (104 proof) and regular strength (80 proof)

Cathouse Gin: A mid-Atlantic style gin distilled using Dutch technique has a healthy balance of juniper and coriander along with a deep botanical richness

All Points West Malt and Grain Pot Still Whiskey: This style of whiskey distilled from Barley Malt and American Corn had flavor profile ruled “too American to continue and was banned from production in Irish and Scottish Pot Still distilleries in 1908. The style, for the first time in 100 years, is available again, and finally produced in America.

Entry to senior level positions mashing, fermenting, distilling, and bottling spirits, with part time tasting room responsibly including either tours guide or bar tending. (additional duties may be assigned)

Must have a passion for making things well.

Basic education in math, physics, chemistry, and biology;

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Home-brewing experience preferred.
  • Advanced study in a related technical field (Science or Engineering) preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work 8-13 hour shifts
  • Ability to lift 55lb sacks of grain
  • Ability to climb and work on ladders
  • Fine motor skills that include knot tying, and opening and closing finger tightened clamps
  • Visual acuity to read gauges and hydrometers
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures
  • Ability to work both independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, push, pull, reach, crouch, kneel, crawl or bend, and perform repetitive motions of the hands and/or wrists.
  • High mental and visual attention required for planning difficult work methods and sequences to obtain size, shape, or physical qualities of product. AND/OR Extremely close visual attention such as making delicate adjustments to control operations.

Environmental Conditions:

While performing the duties of this position, the worker is exposed to inside environmental conditions, extreme heat, potential for physical injury, exposure to hot fluids, pressurized vessels and transfer lines, strong odors, chemicals, and moving machinery. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud most of the time.
