Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Edit/Media Specialist II C/W at Douglass Residential College. This position reports to the Director of Strategic Initiatives at Douglass and executes editorial concepts and plans, drafts all communications collateral, including but not limited to periodic, journal, website, newsletters, annual report, recruitment and alumnae communications. The Edit/Media Specialist II C/W reviews Douglass collateral for accuracy with the brand standards/visual identity. This position exercises independent judgement in the creation and implementation of the communications plan.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responsible for drafting high level reports for major stakeholders.
  • Acts as the “voice” of Douglass and implements procedures for unit staff, departments, and vendors.
  • Coordinates and leads project teams.
  • Oversees and manages unit, as well as hires, trains, and evaluates staff.
  • Provides oversight to other activities, prepares budgets, and provides financial reports.
  • Ensures Douglass meets the following outcomes:
  • Greater visibility of DRC’s contribution to students’ personal, academic, and social achievements
  • Stronger fund-raising platforms and donor cultivation opportunities
  • Greater alumnae involvement and understanding of DRC programs and direction
  • Educating the Rutgers’ community and state stakeholders about the status and accomplishments of DRC students and programs.

    Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in English, creative writing, journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge, skill, and understanding of writing, formatting, editing, proofreading, publishing, promotional advertising, organization, coordination, and/or facilitation.
  • Also requires a minimum of two years of professional writing and copy-editing experience.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Requires strong organizational and project management skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with web content management systems and leading social networking platform
  • Proven ability to research, write, edit, and proofread standard copy
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in English, creative writing, journalism, or related field.
  • Experience working in higher education or in an academic setting.
  • Experience with smartsheet and a variety of design software such as InDesgin, Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite among others
  • Equipment Utilized
  • MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, and experience with web content management systems (Marketo) and leading social networking platforms
  • Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs
  • Requires flexibility in scheduling; the ability to work some nights and weekends.
