DutiesSummaryProvides electronics technician support of the systems engineering function for NAS air route radar systems (includes En Route Long Range Radar systems), and serves as a principle technical specialist for guidance on, and resolution of, problems associated with continued operation of commissioned facilities and resolution of problems related to the introduction of new systems into the NAS. Learn more about this agencyResponsibilitiesPerforms analyses, design, development, and implementation of system-wide hardware/firmware modifications; service life extension; failure analysis/support in response to complex NAS related problems beyond the assigned repair capability of the field; NAS configuration management; quality assurance; development and issuance of associated national technical directives and maintenance guidance. Incumbent is involved in the development and evaluation of the operational readiness and/or supportability of new NAS systems for deployment and technical support to new system acquisition efforts, responsibility for independently analyzing/resolving a wide variety of user problems and system failures involving functional and technical challenges (e.g. en route radar data/digital signal processing; en route radar antenna controls and motors; equipment/tools for controlling, monitoring, and reporting system for en route radar and other equipment in building status and health, firmware design, burn/load, debug; and/or circuit card assembly (CAA) design). Represents the organization as a primary technical point of contact in intra- and inter-service agency meetings relating to the technical aspects of in-service improvement, new system development, technical documentation, and resolution of problems associated with the NAS. Contacts are to furnish technical guidance and advice, share information, provide data, and discuss the statuses of assignments. These contacts can be internal and external to the organization. Incumbent represents the technical aspects of the NDP/AJW-142 program and bridge the gap between the engineering functions of second level engineering and the functions of the FAA Air Traffic Organization while maintaining good working relationships with a wide variety of individuals using tact and patience when dealing with difficult situations. Initiates contact with system users and technical counterparts to gain their cooperation to resolve problems and/or implement new equipment or system changes. Responsible for the development and delivery of technical guidance for system users. Analyzes and resolves a wide variety of user problems and system failures involving functional and technical challenges. These problems/failures includes: en route radar data/digital signal processing; en route radar antenna controls and motors; equipment/tools for controlling, monitoring, and reporting system for en route radar and other equipment in building status and health; firmware design, burn/load, debug; and/or circuit card assembly (CCA) design. Interprets and adapts technical manuals, manufacturers’ instructions, FAA policies and procedures, and other publications provide guidance for some assignments, but in many cases, guidance is inadequate or incomplete, requiring the technician to develop solutions based on comprehensive knowledge of the discipline and past experience. Completed assignments are considered technically authoritative and are reviewed only for general compliance with organization objectives. Identifies resources needed to perform assignments. Organizes and assigns resources needed to accomplish large work activities within established schedules. Work is reviewed for compliance with established policies and sound technical and programmatic judgment. Travel Required50% or less - The job may require up to 50% travel. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify for this position at the FV-I level, applicants must have at least 52 weeks of Specialized Experience equivalent to the (FV-H or GS/FG-12) level in the Federal Service that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Specialized experience may include but not limited to: experience in operations and maintenance support of the Air Route Surveillance Radar (ARSR-4) systems to include responsibility for a variety of projects involving the modification and modernization of hardware/firmware systems; development and delivery of technical guidance for system users; and responsibility for independently analyzing/resolving a wide variety of user problems and system failures involving functional and technical challenges (e.g., en route radar data/digital signal processing; en route radar antenna controls and motors; equipment/tools for controlling, monitoring, and reporting system for en route radar and other equipment in building status and health; firmware design, burn/load, debug; and/or circuit card assembly (CCA) design.)
