  • Position Title: Financial Accountant II Reports to: Financial Compliance Manager Department: Accounting Salary: Level F Location: Los Alamitos, CA Time Base: 100% Position No: 5704 Position Description The Financial Accountant II will handle functions that are critical in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the Agency’s financial records. The position will report to the Financial Compliance Manager and Controller. The Financial Accountant will provide vital support in major areas of accounting that includes auditing, financial statement preparation, general ledger account reconciliation, fixed assets and tax reporting. Responsibilities
  • Prepares monthly/quarterly financial statements and related schedules for the Executive Team and Board
  • Prepares monthly/quarterly property management and investment reports and related schedules for the Executive Team and Board
  • Prepares monthly/yearly journal entries to record financial transactions concerning investments and associated investment income/loss, building expenses, amortization of prepaid assets, and depreciation of capital assets
  • Prepares and files sales/use tax returns, maintains records
  • Prepares and files unclaimed property returns with various states, maintains records
  • Prepares and files property taxes with various states, maintains records
  • Prepares and files excise tax with the state of Washington, maintains records
  • Maintains all fixed asset accounts in the general ledger system
  • Maintains all prepaid asset accounts in the general ledger system
  • Maintains all investment accounts in the general ledger system
  • Maintains all sales/use tax accounts in the general ledger system
  • Reconciles all accounts maintained in the general ledger system, ensuring that the balances agree with the subsidiary ledgers/supporting schedules
  • Prepares audit schedules, assists in drafting the MD&A and notes to the financial statements, and helps as needed in all aspects of the audit
  • Prepares indirect cost rate proposal which is the basis for negotiating the indirect cost rate
  • Prepares calculation of tenant’s share in building operating costs, maintains records Assists in subrecipient monitoring
  • Assists in preparing financial reports submitted to funders
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications
  • BS degree in Accounting
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in financial statement preparation and reconciliation
  • Experience in month-end / year-end close
  • Proficient in the use of Excel (pivot table, v-lookup), Powerpoint and Word
  • Knowledge in GASB, GAAP statements concerning investments and capital assets
  • Knowledge of Uniform Guidance
  • Experience in preparing audit schedules and dealing with auditors
  • Experience in using Costpoint accounting system
  • Hands on experience in filing sales/excise/property taxes and unclaimed properties
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Analytical, problem solver, resourceful, proactive
  • Able to handle changing priorities and multi-tasks and work independently
  • Detail oriented, organized and can work under pressure
  • Must be a team player
  • Able to handle 10-key by touch
  • Excellent work ethics
  • Must be authorized to work in the USA (visa sponsorship not available).
