The Fuel Handler assists in the safe and efficient operation of the fuel receiving and handling systems and the supporting equipment and systems. The Fuel Handler carries out all routine maintenance, inspects, and monitors operating components and reports plant status. The Fuel Handler is responsible for ensuring that there is a sufficient supply of fuel to the plant during all periods of plant operation.
Operations of Heavy Equipment including Frontend Loader, Bulldozer, and Forklift.
Monitor and report all nonconforming quality fuel deliveries to the Operations Manager on a periodic basis.
Responsible for assisting delivery trucks as needed on inbound and outbound weight ticket issues.
Assist in start-up, shutdown, and normal operations of fuel handling system and other power plant systems.
Perform operating tests and inspections and make repairs and adjustments to equipment assigned to achieve proper operating conditions.
Continuously improve safety, housekeeping, and the work environment throughout the site.
Perform routine and corrective maintenance on all fuel handling equipment, storage facilities, and any other equipment as assigned.
Maintain logs as assigned.
Perform loading and unloading operations using a forklift or bobcat. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance inspections on same.
Report any abnormal or irregular conditions that develop during the progress of the work and take corrective measures within the scope of operating and maintenance instructions.
Assist maintenance and operations personnel as required.
Maintain all areas clean and orderly at all time.
Complete other tasks as requested by the Control Room Operator, Fuel Handling Supervisor or the Operations Manager.
This position operates from established and well-known procedures, performing duties under general direction and minimum supervision. Decisions are made within prescribed operating procedures and guidelines.
The position encounters recurring work situations of moderate complexity, with occasional variations from the norm.
The Fuel Handler must safely perform work resulting in no accidents and comply with all environmental permits at all times.
This position must effectively communicate information to supervision and fellow plant personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvement.
All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customers needs are met.
Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school is required. Two years’ experience in a Power Plant or a technical degree is desirable.
Experience in heavy equipment operations and general preventive maintenance. Experience in heavy equipment operations is required.
Theoretical and practical knowledge of industrial safety, hazardous waste management and inspection/recording of plant parameters is highly desirable.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have excellent organizational skills.
Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. On call status will periodically be required.

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the plant.
Ability to work at heights and on ladders amid constant noise and vibration
Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in high noise and/or hot and cold temperature extremes
Ability to work in proximity to high voltage and/or rapidly rotating equipment and in cramped and/or confined conditions requiring overall flexibility, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination, with occasional heavy lifting
Ability to occasionally work with toxic chemicals including, but not limited to, solvents, acids, and caustics.
Ability to work rotating shifts, working on feet for 12 hour periods, work overtime and work weekends and holidays.
Sufficient physical strength to operate manual valves and adequate physical endurance for repetitive motions, such as manual valve operation, operating heavy pneumatic wrenches, and barrel moving
Ability to wear a respirator, hard hat, hearing, and eye protection
Able to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to work in confined spaces
Work outside in hot or cold, wet or dry weather
Work alone and in an unsupervised environment
