Spectrum Sports broadcast live sporting events for various professional, collegiate and high school sports teams most notably the Lakers, Dodgers, Galaxy, Sparks, WCC and CIF State Championships in the Los Angeles area. What we’re looking for: The Graphic Designer will be responsible for visually conveying the Networks message through the use of special effects, animation, or other visual images using video, computers, or other electronic tools and media. The on-air designer/animator will be responsible for all facets of design & production for a live, sports television network. The designer/animator should be capable of taking projects through the phases of concept, design, production and delivery. Additionally, the on-air designer/animator will serve many clients which include promos, live remote, live studio, programming and sales/marketing initiatives. Finally, the role will also require occasional print or web project. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conceptualize, design, develop, execute and animate high-end design projects that are integrated into multiple shows and live television graphics.
  • Work collaboratively with graphics producers, art directors and creative directors.
  • Exceptional organizational and multi-project managing skills required.
  • Good Communication skills a must.
  • Develop graphics and layouts for product illustrations, company logos and internet websites.
  • Create two- and three-dimensional images depicting objects in motion or illustrating a process, using computer animation or modeling programs.
  • Prepare illustrations or rough sketches of material, discussing them with leaders and making necessary changes.
  • Maintain and archive/catalog of images, photos or previous work products.
  • Script, plan and create animated narrative sequences under tight deadlines, using computer software and hand drawing techniques.
  • Deep understanding of the principles and methods for promoting and selling services.
  • Qualifications:
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Good listener and exceptional communication skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in Adobe CS and C4d
  • Complete understanding of the implementation of design elements in network television and live environments a must
  • Strong concept and storyboard design skills
  • Strong design sense, strong typography
  • Experience with Apple MacPro and Internal Render Farm
  • Experience with computer aided design software such as After Effect CS5+ to include multiple plug-ins, Real Smart Motion Blur from ReVision, Optical Flares
  • Hands-on video creation and editing experience utilizing Mograph, Advanced Render, Body Paint 3D, Hair/Fur, Think Particles, Sketch, Mocca
  • Careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks
  • Creative and alternative thinking to develop new ideas
  • Ability to accept feedback and work effectively in a high stress environment
  • Willingness to work weekends, nights and long hours
  • Must have a passion for sports in general
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and tight deadlines
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Reacts to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently
  • Flexible during times of change
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments
  • Must be willing and able to learn, understand, and grow with the business
  • Education & Experience:
  • College diploma or university degree in the field of Graphic Art and/or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of Animation/Graphic Designer experience in sports production preferred
  • 4 to 6 years previous work experience in a fast paced, motion graphics studio or network

  • Overtime may be required to meet deadlines
  • Varying schedule due to, breaking news and/or daily news coverage requirements
  • Provide 24x7, 365 days per year, on-call support. May entail phone or physical presence at the facility for equipment failure or other disasters. This includes, but is not limited to equipment and power failures, loss of contracted services, storms or severe weather, and schedule conflicts
  • Participation in an established on-call rotation
