Purpose/Position Overview

Employee engagement starts before day one, this position leads a team by strategically focusing on the employee experience from application to onboarding. This includes providing a broad range of professional talent acquisition activities, including but not limited to: administering recruiting, and hiring programs, advising managers, supervisors, and employees regarding human resource practices, policies, and procedures. Works with a great deal of independent discretion in decision making and execution of responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities60% of Time the HR Welcome Team, Assistant Director must:
  • Lead a team that specializes ensuring all hires get a warm and inclusive welcome and experience smooth on-boarding and integration to their new roles.
  • Provides leadership in the recruitment and selection of employees to align with the organization’s vision, mission, and values. Develops marketing plans and recruitment materials to attract highly qualified and diverse applicants in support of Boise State University’s initiatives and culture of engagement. Directs development and implementation of recruitment, selection, and onboarding programs for employees, and contracts for contingent staffing services.
  • Sets goals, establishes priorities, and identifies strategies regarding recruitment and selection in support of a culture of engaged and productive employees.
  • Collaborates across the organization to ensure programs and services meet current and future business and workforce needs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management, and various agencies at all levels of the organization
  • Respond to campus requests and recommend talent & leadership effectiveness integrated solutions. Develop innovative, creative, and proactive strategies to attract high quality candidates and effectively build and engage with talent communities through social media outlets. Provide input on departmental reorganizations and associated position and employment related changes.
  • Interview, hire, train and motivate Welcome Team staff. Develop team and individual expectations, objectives and goals, evaluate performance issues and work towards resolving employee conflicts.
  • Ensure internal/external understanding of overall business unit strategies and priorities.
35% of Time the HR Welcome Team, Assistant Director
  • Provides expert advice and guidance to all levels of the organization and facilitates focus groups and advisory teams to drive toward solutions to common problems. Ensures professional and technical resources are available to implement and maintain the essential infrastructure of programs.
  • Responsible for Affirmative Action process for recruitment, collaborating to meet university goals. Provides strategic consultation to identify diversity needs and provide sources for recruiting diverse candidates.
5% of Time the HR Welcome Team, Assistant Director
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Bachelor’s Degree and 7 years of relevant experience, or equivalent progressively responsible professional experience including 3 years managerial experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Quality experience with human resource recruitment, compensation and employment practices
  • Ability to interpret and apply employment laws, rules, regulations and policies
  • Ability to coach/advise employees and management through sensitive HR issues to resolve conflict and seek workable solutions; conduct individual and/or group facilitations to foster effective communication and talent & leadership effectiveness integrated solutions.
  • Demonstrative experience of leading an engaged and productive team
  • Demonstrated creativity and interpersonal skills at developing and leveraging consultative recruitment strategies

Compensation: Starting at $85,467 per year; commensurate with experience.
