Salary: $79,032 - $105,372

The State Bar of California is a public corporation with the Judicial Branch of state government, serving as an administrative arm of the California Supreme Court. The State Bar licenses attorneys and regulates the profession and practice of law in California by administering the California Bar Exam; enforcing the Rules of Professional Conduct for attorneys; disciplining attorneys who violate rules and laws; advancing access to justice; and promoting diversity and inclusion in the legal system.

The State Bar of California is the largest State Bar in the country and one of the largest in the world. It is headquartered in San Francisco and also has an office in Los Angeles.

The State Bar is funded largely by annual attorney licensing fees and is not part of the traditional State budget process. The majority of the State Bar’s funding is dependent on a licensing fee bill that must be approved by the legislature and the Governor each year.

The State Bar’s Office of Human Resources is seeking a Benefits Analyst to join their team. The Benefits Analyst will serve as the lead contact person for the administration of the State Bar’s health, welfare and retirement plans. The position will ensure compliance with regulatory agencies by monitoring, analyzing and recommending compliance actions for new and evolving benefits. The Benefits Analyst will network and attend conferences to ensure a strong grasp of market trends in an effort to maintain a competitive benefits package.

The Benefits Analyst will provide excellent customer service to all employees while maintaining close attention to detail and a high level of confidentiality. The ideal candidate for this role thrives in a people-oriented environment where face-to-face interaction is a key component of maintaining client engagement through collaborative partnership at all levels of the organization. This position will require flexibility and the ability to organize and prioritize a wide range of projects.

Duties for the Benefits Analyst include:

  • Evaluate existing benefit programs and identify opportunities to change and develop new programs and processes
  • Research competitive benefit trends and best practices and report out on findings to key stakeholders
  • Maintain benefit information and policies on internal communications resources, and develop new communication materials, strategies and project plans to enhance employees’ understanding of benefits offerings
  • Act as the main point of contact for all external vendors and brokers
  • Serve as the liaison between CalPERS and the State Bar regarding health and retirement requirements
  • Process invoices and oversee billing processes for all plans including resolving billing errors, eligibility issues, adjustments and transmitting of weekly file feeds
  • Prepare/reconcile monthly executive retiree reimbursement report
  • Collaborate closely with Payroll and HRIS team to configure the annual Open Enrollment process and the administration and maintenance of the benefits programs in the HCM system
  • Perform benefit audits and data analysis by monitoring employee coverage changes to ensure accuracy and validity
  • Oversee the ergonomic and transit programs and facilitate the annual AQMD Ride Share Survey
  • Coordinate quarterly benefit workshops and presentations including but not limited to CalPERS, Fidelity, Claremont EAP, LA Financial and Golden 1 Credit Unions
  • Conduct workshops for new hires, potential retirees and current employees regarding benefit plans, costs and retirement formulas
  • Conduct employee surveys to gather feedback and identify opportunities for employee engagement
  • Create and maintain employee benefit files
  • Process employee paperwork including but not limited to new hire and termination entries in my|CalPERS
  • Administer COBRA through a third-party administrator
  • Preferrred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 years experience administering employee benefit programs, analyzing business data and developing complex reports.
  • Strong knowledge of Public Employees’ Retirement Law (PERL) and contents of CalPERS provisions, statutes, and regulations.
