Job Description

Title: Jr. Proofreader

Reports to: Sr. Proofreader

Location: J.Crew Corporate Headquarters

Overview: The Junior Proofreader will ensure accuracy and consistency of print and digital copy for J.Crew and J.Crew Factory, proofreading for content, grammar, word usage and style. He/she will help maintain voice and tone of J.Crew and Factory brands and communicate and work independently with other proofreaders, copywriters, production artists, designers and merchandisers to resolve issues and inconsistencies across all channels.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Copy edit, proofread and fact check digital and print content, including online product copy, emails, social media, ads and signage.
  • Update and maintain department guides, including brand treatment, product history and standard product copy.
  • Maintain consistent product copy across all categories and oversee collection of missing product information and copy for monthly launches.
  • Update product copy from QA callouts and field queries for other teams.

    Qualifications:

  • Able to proof a wide variety of copy under demanding deadlines.
  • Quick and self-directed learner.
  • Flexible and open to evolving style standards.
  • Excellent communication skills and work well in a team setting.
  • Proactive and willing to take ownership of projects.
  • Strong attention to detail while being able to see the big picture.
  • Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and Chicago Style preferred.
