This is advanced professional and supervisory library work in coordinating system-wide information delivery and circulation services for the St. Petersburg municipal libraries. Work includes the oversight of Main Library’s borrower services, including, but not limited to, library registration, customer account maintenance, cash transactions, library lending and routing of materials, repair of materials and voter registration. Work also includes special projects related to planning, organizing and participating in the circulation and circulation control services of a seven-library system utilizing RFID hardware and software technology; planning and participating in collection development and maintenance; performing complicated, technical library tasks; presenting division information to internal and external customers; supervising professional and nonprofessional personnel engaged in borrower services; and participation in the selection, placement, promotion, training, safety, appraisal and discipline of assigned employees. Work requires continuous, effective public contact; the exercise of considerable patience, tact and diplomacy; considerable independent judgment, flexibility and initiative in scheduling, assigning and coordinating work with that of other divisions within the Library System and with partnership organizations serving the libraries in different capacities; and, in conjunction with other Librarian IIIs, participation in the oversight of Main Library’s daily operations, including on-call and weekend supervision, as assigned. Have a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university.
Have significant professional experience in library information delivery services, including customer care and circulation.
Have a minimum of three years of progressive, professional supervisory library experience.
Have good knowledge and understanding of public librarianship and principles, with emphasis in the areas of staff development, borrower services and circulation development.
Desirable Qualifications.Preferred applicants:
Have experience in a multi-library system.
