This position is responsible for:
1) Supporting the departments in overall trade compliance and other corporate logistics area over Parent Company and affiliates.
2) Providing practical assistance to business departments of Parent Company and affiliates regarding compliance requirements, customary trade rules and other corporate logistics issue for individual transactions and general compliance efforts.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Identify Regulatory obligations for existing and new business
Researches regulatory requirements of applicable federal agencies for products for which Company is identified as an Importer of Record, an Exporter of Record, or a Shipper of Record and recommends effective internal trade and logistics control methods to minimize export, security trade, import and inventory risks.
Provides advice on regulatory ramifications of potential new business.
Identifies the applicable regulatory agencies with special attention paid to Customs and Border Protection, FDA, EPA, DOT, DOC, NRC and OFAC.
Determines a product s HTSUS, Schedule B and ECCN classifications, as appropriate, conferring with outside counsel as necessary
Seeks interpretation or formal ruling regarding trade and customs laws and other regulations.
Performs internal audits of Parent company s import, export and inventory transactions under the direction of department s director.
Monitors and measures Companies compliance performances.
Provide in-house logistics expertise for both existing and new business
Investigates and plans logistics and transportation arrangements on inquiries from Business Departments and Group Companies mainly in the US.
Provides advice to Business Departments and Group Companies on regulatory and operational matters related to logistics and transportation.
Keeps updated on industry trends and information, shares such information with other members of the department as well as of other Company offices.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
Knowledge of trade terms between sellers and buyers in international trade (e.g. Incoterms).
Knowledge of shipping terms between shippers and consignees.
Knowledge of procedures for export shipment, including documentation and customs clearance.
Knowledge of U.S. export controls, export control and sanctions regulations, procedures, policies and issues, political situation in countries concerned, U.S. relations with those countries.
Knowledge of procedures for import shipment, including document handling and customs clearance.
Knowledge of the various chapters of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), including the General Rules of Interpretation, General Notes and General Statistical Notes
Knowledge of OGA (Other Governmental Agencies) and their requirements for import compliance, with a special emphasis on Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
Capable of using computer software, such as Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
Ability to communicate in clear English, both verbally and in writing
Mathematical and data analysis skills
Interpersonal, coordination and negotiation skills
Ability to work in cross-cultural environment
Customs broker s license is desirable
Knowledge of hazardous materials transportation regulations is preferred
Effective time-management skills
Minimum 1-2 years work experience in related industries, or combination of training and experience that indicates the ability to do the job.
