About the Position: This position is located in the Patient Administration Division in Madigan Army Medical CenterThis position is being filled under the Expedited Hiring Authority for Shortage Category and/or Critical Need Health Care Occupations.This is a developmental position and may be filled at any grade listed on this job announcement with non-competitive promotion potential to the full performance grade (GS-08).

Responsibilities
  • Select appropriate medical codes and modifiers for diseases and injury diagnoses, acuity of care, and procedures.
  • Enter data into an automated medical records database.
  • Train medical reords technicians on coding methods and procedures.
  • Pull reports upon request based on the information needed.
  • Review medical records information ensuring compliance with quality assurance regulations.

Specialized Experience for the GS-06 Position: One year of specialized experience which includes applying medical record procedures; coding a wide range of diseases/injuries diagnoses using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10 CM) coding guidelines. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Specialized Experience for the GS-07 Position: One year of specialized experience which includes applying medical record procedures; coding a wide range of diseases/injuries diagnoses using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10 CM) coding guidelines; and coding medical/surgical procedures using the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding guidelines. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Specialized Experience for the GS-08 Position: One year of specialized experience which includes applying medical record procedures; coding a wide range of diseases/injuries diagnoses using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10 CM) coding guidelines; coding medical/surgical procedures using the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding guidelines; and spot checking medical records to ensure consistency, completeness, and/or compliance with applicable standards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Education

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this position, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
  • All employees assigned to a Medical Treatment Facility are required to be screened for applicate immunizations regardless of series, based on occupational risk, and are subject to missing/required immunizations in accordance with AR 40-562, Chapter 3 and 4. This will include an immunization/medical screening to determine inoculation for Measles, Mumps and Rubella, Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis, Chickenpox titer, skin test screening for Tuberculosis, and a series of three immunizations against Hepatitis.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
