The Network Help Desk Technician will provide technical support to IDS employees and will resolve software, hardware and networking issues. The candidate will provide technical support in person, via email or over the phone in a friendly, knowledgeable and professional manner. The candidate will identify, troubleshoot, and resolve a wide variety of technical computer-related problems; support and train end-users on a wide range of software applications as needed; research, understand and apply help desk concepts, best practices and procedures; master new computer technology; and maintain a professional and collaborative working relationship with a diverse and geographically separated workforce. The candidate will be able to price compare and when approved, purchase hardware and software for end users. The candidate will maintain an organized and accurate inventory of IDS hardware and software and support accounting with inventory audits as needed.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Utilize the IDS Help Desk ticket system to prioritize work and provide status on open issues.
  • Identify, diagnose and resolve software, hardware and network related issues including, but not limited to workstations, printers, e-mail, internet, VPN and network access.
  • Provide one-on-one end-user problem resolution either in person, via email or by phone as required.
  • Set-up and configure end-user computer hardware, software and peripherals.
  • Assist with server and file backup processes.
  • Perform timely repair of minor hardware issues.
  • Assist in creating materials for end-user frequently asked questions and troubleshooting.
  • Pricing and purchasing equipment and software.
  • Monitoring and renewing software support subscriptions and hardware warranties.
  • Maintaining an up to date inventory of IDS software and hardware.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Desktop operating procedures, various software applications and basic knowledge of PC and MAC hardware.
  • The ability to independently diagnose and resolve a wide-variety of hardware, software and network errors and/or issues experienced by a diverse user community.
  • Outstanding communication skills (written and oral).
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other windows-based software is a necessity.
Education and Work Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required (Bachelor’s degree is a plus).
  • 4 or more years of direct IT related experience required.
  • Experience with Windows network administration, Microsoft Exchange, VMware, Oracle, Unix and Linux is a plus.
Physical & Mental Qualifications:
  • Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), moving work stations from one office or location to another, bending, standing, climbing and/or walking.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 80% of the time.
  • Must consistently work and type on a computer and may be required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office supplies, etc.
Travel:
  • Some Travel may be required.
Hours:
  • Normal work schedule will be 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. May be required to work additional hours and/or weekends, as needed, to meet deadlines or to fulfill travel obligations.
