Do you love working with children in a classroom or recreational setting and providing engaging and fun activities for them? Are you creative and energetic, and adept at managing a classroom of children with different learning styles? This position allows you to work in warm, nurturing school environments and to shape the minds of tomorrow s leaders.


To plan, develop, and implement academic enrichment, positive youth development and recreational activities for elementary school students in our after-school program. Similar positions offered at multiple sites.

  • Promote and stimulate program participation
  • Maintain accurate program attendance records
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, parents/guardians and school staff
  • Display high level of commitment and enthusiasm for activities
  • Must be able to commit to the hours of Monday - Friday 2:30 PM - 6:15 PM
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Required Experience:
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent, pursuing a college degree in Education or Human Services field preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year prior experience working with groups of children in an educational and/or recreational setting a must
  • Knowledge of teaching skills, techniques, practices a plus
  • Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with children, parents, and school personnel
  • Organized and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Flexible and able to multi-task
  • Experience working with inner-city children a must
  • Knowledge of relevant Hartford neighborhood(s) a plus
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
  • Proficient with word processing and spreadsheet applications. Possess solid general computer skills, including ability to work in a Windows XP environment. Familiarity with specific applications used by the Village a plus.
  • Physically able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations, including ability to supervise groups of children and perform physical intervention if required
