Job Description

FES Group LLC is part of CCL and provides specialized geotechnical engineering and construction services. A full-time project engineer is required who will be based in Jessup MD, USA.


  • Perform plans take-off of work scopes for Geotechnical design/build projects (retaining walls, foundation support and slope stabilization). Prepare cost estimates and develop fee proposals, submit and apply for project permits and schedule inspections when required.
  • Perform preliminary and final design using geotechnical software and manual computations using state-of-the-art design methods (retaining walls, deep foundation support, tied-back retaining walls and support of excavation and slope stabilization).
  • Develop project scope of work, engineering design and shop drawings.
  • Identify changes in the scope of work, prepare change orders and submit fee proposals for the change orders including Request for Information (RFIs) for approval.
  • Identify equipment needs and repairs, order materials and solicit prices from vendors and subcontractors.
  • Utilize gINT, Belgard Segmental Retaining Wall Design Software, HeliCAP, FLAC 2D, and Revit for design, technical and fee estimates.
  • Utilize the following software to perform analysis, design and engineering recommendations: ANSYS Workbench, PLAXIS, ETABS, AutoCAD, SAFE, QConBridge and SAP 2000 (Design Analysis for Structural and Geotechnical models). In addition, perform Mathcad for precise design analytics; Acoustic Emission (AE) instrument to evaluate any issues with structural elements.
  • Perform geotechnical analysis and design. Perform inspections and testing, such as compression, tension and lateral pile load tests in accordance with ASTM procedures. Perform helical screw anchor load and proof tests, analyse the results and submit required reports in accordance with ASTM, project plans, specifications and project scope requirements.
  • Supervise subsurface exploration testing, including infiltration tests.
  • Perform layout for work, including supervision of geotechnical construction crews to insure proper performance and safety are adhered to and high production is achieved.
  • Maintain and manage project work scopes, insuring safety compliance, daily field reports, crew’s time sheets and change orders are reported to project manager and clients. In addition, conduct projects safety meetings and attend weekly client meetings.
  • Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Geotechnical/Structural Engineering is required as a minimum.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of work experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated skills/knowledge of designing and analyzing structural and geotechnical models using software such as AutoCAD, SAP 2000, ANSYS Workbench, ETABS, PLAXIS, gINT and SAFE.
