Summary
The primary results expected from the Quality Engineer will to be provide assistance to the Plant Managers and Quality Manager in the implementation, maintenance and improvement of the Quality System. This position will be assisting in the monitoring of materials and supplies, resolving production problems, participate in the PPAP process and interact with customers, co-workers, and suppliers. Extensive participation and application of problem-solving techniques and lean manufacturing principles is also required
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of finished product.
- Evaluate materials, products and work in progress for conformance to specifications
- Complete/coordinate customer and supplier PPAPs and associated documents/requirements. Train suppliers in PPAP
- Review/maintain PPAP samples
- Coordinate supplier/customer/internal corrective actions
- Work closely with product and manufacturing engineering, suppliers and customers to develop and maintain standards, specifications and high product quality levels
- Perform/participate in customer/supplier visits/audits.
- Interact with Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Development, Sales, Manufacturing, etc. to investigate/resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions and improvements.
- Perform internal quality system audits.
- Quality data entry/analysis as required, maintain quality records, develop/maintain/communicate quality metrics.
- Coordinate/assist with supplier quality systems (performance reporting, communication of requirements, evaluation/approval of new suppliers, receiving inspection, material certification)
- Create/maintain quality procedures/work instructions
- Assist Product Design and Manufacturing Engineering to determine inspection criteria of product.
- Develop and communicate quality metrics to facilitate quality improvement activities.
- Coordinate effective communication with customers and suppliers, conduct visits/audits as required, assure compliance with documented requirements and participate in improvement activities.
- Design and conduct quality related training.
- Coordinate quality objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability and reduce associated costs.
- Serve as an internal resource on applying/completing quality tools/methods and quality systems necessary to support ISO 9001 requirements
- Ability to implement/maintain quality systems necessary to support ISO 9001 compliance.
- Support and utilize lean initiatives in all activities.
- Coordinate quality objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability and minimize cost.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field preferred and/or an Associates Degree in a related field combined with 3 to 5 years of quality experience.
- Minimum of 2 to 5 years relevant quality assurance/engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
- Previous experience in quality systems, manufacturing engineering and/or lean is preferred
- Previous experience in marine and/or upholstery manufacturing environment is a plus
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Effective oral and written communications skills required
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations required
- Previous experience with equipment analysis, validation, and sourcing preferred
- Knowledge of ISO requirements
- The ability to work effectively in a team environment is required.
- PC skills to include: MS Office software, such as Excel and Word
- The ability to work with frequent, established deadlines is required
- Organizational and analytical skills are required.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders.
The employee must occasionally lift 30 to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The position is an office and plant environment. The plant environment may include, on some occasion, exposure to heat, noise, and odor.
The employee occasionally performs work-related travel.
