Job Description

Lux Research is actively looking for smart; scientifically minded individuals who are looking to explore employment opportunities outside of a lab or engineering setting! This position is a great opportunity for recent graduates looking to use their sciences or engineering education in a business setting.

Rapid advancements in electric and autonomous vehicles are enabling some of the biggest changes to our transportation system in the last century. This Research Associate role would join our team of researchers focused on technologies and business models impact the future of mobility, which include battery and EV technologies, hardware and software for self-driving vehicles, and new business models like Mobility-as-a-Service. A Research Associate spends significant time identifying and analyzing technologies and companies, patents, scientific publications, assessing potential technology impact, and interviewing technology executives.

A core function of this job includes writing and presenting this research, so strong writing and presentation skills are required. Given the highly technical focus of our work and our clients' work, a degree in the sciences and/or engineering fields is also required.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct secondary research drawing on diverse sources, including business and trade press articles, scientific publications, patent filings, and conference presentations.
  • Maintain a pipeline of briefings with senior executives at innovative companies as well as leaders of cutting-edge university and government labs.
  • Author descriptive documents that profile the emerging technology activities of start-up companies, large corporations, and research laboratories.
  • Assist with the production of research reports and other client deliverables.
  • Help manage the operations of a rapidly-growing, geographically-dispersed team.
  • Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree with outstanding record of academic achievement and a major in a STEM field is required. One to two years of work experience is a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Deep intellectual curiosity about emerging technologies, particular interest in Mobility-as-a-Service, electric vehicles, and/or autonomous driving is a plus.
  • Ability to write clearly about business and technical topics.
  • Excellent office software skills and ability to touch type.
  • Able to be comfortable and thrive in a fast-moving, rapidly growing, start-up-like environment.
  • Entrepreneurial, enthusiastic, collegial, and collaborative approach to work.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Mandarin or Japanese is desirable but not required
  • This is an entry-level position and is not appropriate for Ph.D. or post-doc candidates.
  • There is no relocation assistance associated with this role; qualified candidates must be able to prove valid Work authorization status.
