San Luis Obispo (SLO) County, Information Technology Department, is looking for an experienced SAP Software Engineer at either a II or III position classification (based on experience and qualifications) to join our SAP development team. As a software engineer you will be a key contributor delivering new product features and functionality to the County's SAP landscape and maintaining current applications. THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT The Information Technology Department (ITD) offers an exciting, fast-paced and positive environment where exceptional performance is encouraged and rewarded. We believe in the exceptional talents of our staff and are committed to their professional growth and sharpening of skills through extensive educational opportunities. Eighty members strong, ITD manages the countywide technology infrastructure for approximately 2,500 users. Our robust 27-person development team designs and supports a variety of custom applications and critical vendor integrations across the entire spectrum of the County's lines of business. These centralized software services provide our engineers with the exposure and creative opportunities to team with and deliver high value products for essentially 23 different departmental industries.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a creative and innovative software engineer who can contribute to the County by applying their skills in business systems and software engineering. We are seeking a developer who is more technically experienced and has an interest in working with clients. Ideally, we would like our candidate to have SAP experience. However, if you are a fantastic developer and you have some experience, exposure or interest in learning SAP, and you have the interpersonal skills to work effectively with our functional team, we encourage you to apply! Ideal Candidates should:

  • Have the ability to convert business into technical requirements
  • Have knowledge of and experience with ABAP for use in programming for SAP
  • Have a great attitude and a "get it done" mind set
  • Have a strong sense of ownership of the applications and services you develop/maintain
  • Have a high degree of self-motivation
  • Have a desire to participate and learn new technology
  • Have an education in computer science (BS/MS) or related experience
  • Be detail-oriented, with strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Have the ability to plan and execute work both independently and as a team member
  • Have the ability to prioritize and manage several tasks at once
  • Have good oral and written communication skills for meeting with customers, peers and managers
  • And, possess experience in one or more of the following:
  • SQL Server, Business Warehouse, Business Objects, ABAP workbench, SAP Query, SAPUI5
  • Familiarity with one or more of these SAP Modules:

  • Minimum Qualifications: SAP Software Engineer II: Either A: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. (Job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis). OR B: An associate's degree or 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university or completion from a job-related, accredited vocational institution. In addition, two years of experience in analysis, programming, and/or database administration. SAP Software Engineer III: Either A: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. (Job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis) In addition, two years of experience in analysis, programming, and/or database administration. (A post-graduate degree in a related field may substitute for one year of the required experience). OR B: An associate's degree or 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university or completion from a job-related, accredited vocational institution. In addition, four years of experience in analysis, programming and/or database administration.
