Job Description
Akamai’s Media Streaming team is looking for an experienced, self-motivated, highly productive Senior Engineering Manager who will be managing an SDET automation team responsible for the automated testing of a large scale distributed media platform for OTT video streaming within the Akamai Cloud. As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering in Test
  • Manage a team of SDET managers responsible for the quality of Akamai’s next gen OTT Video Platform
  • Oversee multiple agile scrum teams delivering software with 100% test automation
  • Partner closely with cross-functional engineering and product leadership and their teams
  • Set and enforce a very high standard of quality for all deliverables.
  • Define and track metrics to measure the quality of the product.
  • Define agile and automated CI processes to support iterative and frequent releases.
  • Drive quality and automation best practices
  • Set the quality direction and goals for the team and guide them to success
  • Champion operational excellence by defining engineering processes backed by well-defined metrics
  • Oversee the organizing, planning, and estimating of our agile software projects
  • Oversee the performance testing strategy, technology, and KPIs for Akamai’s streaming components
  • Developing managers and team members in support of their career goals
  • Bring industry best practices into the team and our projects
  • Provide strategic vision for state-of-the-art server side white box API automation and testing
  • Work in technology areas that cover video streaming, distributed computing, object-oriented automation frameworks, performance testing, security, TCP/IP networking, and Linux server applications
  • About the Team The Media division is responsible for developing Akamai’s Live/On-demand OTT (Over-the-Top) solutions as well as the software used to deliver, download, store, and manage digital media and other web content via the Akamai network. Due to the unmatched scale and video streaming quality of the Akamai network, nearly all large-scale broadcasters and film distributors as well as sports broadcasters use this platform to reach millions of end users throughout the world. The team is directly responsible for developing software which streams the biggest online events including World Cup Soccer, Olympics, March Madness, Super Bowl, and other major sporting and entertainment events. Required Education and Experience:
  • 10 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or
  • 8 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree
  • 5 years of relevant experience and a PhD
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in system software testing and QA disciplines
  • 6+ years managing QA automation teams
  • 6+ years developing white-box API automation frameworks with Python/Java/C++, HTTP, TCP/IP
  • 6+ years of experience in Linux/Unix based server environments
  • 4+ years working with Agile methodologies
  • 2+ years of experience managing engineering managers
  • Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with streaming protocols that include HLS, MPEG-DASH, and HDS
  • Hands-on skills that span networks, systems, software stacks, and applications
  • Experience programming in Python
  • Experience leading performance testing teams and developing performance test frameworks
  • Passion to understand, learn, and dissect new technologies quickly
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive, results driven, and passionate about technology
  • Experience working with remote teams
  • Accustomed to a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
