Sound Designer / Composer for VR Game Studio (Freelance)

We re a VR startup that is on the forefront of the next computing platform. BDS is a team of developers, programmers, engineers, and artists. As Sound Designer at BDS you will help usher in a new era of unrivaled XR experiences and be a part of this exciting journey while helping to support the founders. You will work across many areas and play a big part in the success of the company and our immersive applications.

This is a telecommute position with no requirement to relocate to Portland, Oregon (collaboration is done online).

We are seeking a full-time, experienced Audio Engineer and Composer who has at least 3 years of experience in a technical sound designer role in the games industry.If you do not currently meet the experience requirement we recommend looking at our other available positions or applying for an internship position on our career page:

Things You Will Work On:

  • Design original, innovative and emotionally compelling sound effects, and manage their implementation into the game engine
  • Implement in-game music and audio to create a meaningful player experience
  • Work with audio team to establish audio requirements for game elements
  • Design and deliver the highest quality sound for characters and objects
  • Continually identify opportunities to improve audio quality
  • You will have a major impact on the end product and see gamers playing what you create
  • You will participate in the creative process from start to finish

  • Tell Us if You:

  • Have developed your own VR, AR, Desktop (Mac or PC Gaming), iPhone, Android, or Facebook apps
  • Have experience as a writer or storyteller
  • Where you have experience in game development (i.e. sound design, music, sfx, character voices, ambient effects, soundtracks, etc.)
  • You have experience as an artist, level designer, producer, project lead, graphic designer, engineer, creative director, video game tester, or animator.
  • Have experience in 360 video filmmaking or storyboarding.
  • Have worked on an open source project (link us to the Github) or have participate in game jam events
  • Have experience in Epic’s Unreal game engine or Unity 3D game engine.
  • It’s recommended that you have experience developing with one of the following headsets: HTC Vive, Oculus, Rift, Oculus Go, Samsung Gear VR, HTC Vive Pro, Magic Leap, Windows Hololens, Google Daydream, Sony Playstation VR (PSVR), or Windows Mixed Reality headsets (WMR) such as the Samsung Odyssey.
